First United Church of East Syracuse

We have a beautiful nursery available to the youngest of our congregation.  We also have an active Christian Education Program for children ages 4 through high school.  See below for details!

Christian Education classes are held weekly from September through June during the 10:00 am worship service. The children go to worship with their family, then after the Children’s Moment, the children are excused for classes. (Parents are welcome to tag along to see where the kids go!)

NOTE: On Communion Sundays, the children go to the chapel at the beginning of church (right at 10:00). We do this so that they can be excused and be brought upstairs to join their family member(s) for communion at the end of the worship service. This is typically the first Sunday of each month.

What the children can expect about Christian Education classes: (Except for Communion Sundays!) When the children are excused from the sanctuary, they first meet in the Chapel with one of the teachers for a few minutes of announcements, a Bible lesson, an offering, singing, prayer, and then are excused to their classrooms. The children in Grades 6-12 meet in a classroom across from the Chapel. Children in grades Pre-K (4) - 5 meet in a single, large, classroom and are divided by age and will have a lesson each week, maybe do games, activities, and/or crafts.

Some typical activities that the students have over the course of a year are an Easter Egg Hunt, a Valentine’s Party, collection for the Heifer fund to purchase animals for families in third-world countries, planting flowers for Memorial Day, June ice cream social, One Great Hour of Sharing, participation in the CROP Walk, a Halloween
party, baking breads for the Thanksgiving baskets, and shoebox collections for the Operation Christmas Child.
